MediaWorks is New Zealand's largest independent broadcaster, and reaches more than 4 million Kiwis through its TV, Radio and Digital platforms. The company is owned by Oaktree Capital and governed by a Board of Directors; Jack Matthews (Chairman), Jonas Mitzschke and Paul Lockey. MediaWorks is led by Michael Anderson, CEO.
Michael joined MediaWorks in August 2016 from Australia, where he was Chairman of Oztam and oOH! Media and a non-Executive Director of Fairfax Australia.
Prior to his tenure on Boards, Michael spent seven years as CEO of one of Australia's largest commercial radio groups Austereo (now Southern Cross Austereo) and before that as their Group Director, Sales. Under Michael's leadership, Austereo's EBITDA performance grew by improvements in increasing revenue and audience share, and at the same time making a successful transition into market leadership in digital.
Michael remains Chairman of oOH! Media.
Ciara McGuigan joined MediaWorks in November 2016 to lead the company's finance team. She brings 20 years of international finance management experience across the telecommunications and retail sectors in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand. Ciara worked for Vodafone for nine years, most recently as Chief Financial Officer for Vodafone New Zealand having joined the NZ team in 2013. Prior to her CFO role, Ciara was Head of Financial Planning & Analysis in NZ.
Glen has more than 20 years of sales and management experience, the last seven in the New Zealand media industry, with roles including MediaWorks’ Chief New Ventures Officer, MediaWorks’ Head of Integration and Head of Integration at The Radio Network. Prior to his current appointment, as MediaWorks’ Chief New Ventures Officer he oversaw a number of notable commercial developments including MediaWorks TEG Live and 3NOW. Glen oversees a 160-strong team of sales, integration, and sales engagement staff, including MediaWorks’ award-winning Integration division.
Andrew Szusterman's extensive TV and Radio career includes three years as Group Programming Director for MediaWorks Radio, and co-executive producing The X Factor NZ and New Zealand's Next Top Model. A former Head of Music for MTV UK and Ireland, Andrew established MediaWorks' music channel C4 and was Associate Director of Programming for MediaWorks TV.
Charlotte has an established history of working with some of the world's most recognisable and high profile entertainment brands and talent. She has led communication campaigns for broadcasters, brands and talent in the UK, and prior to her role at MediaWorks, she headed up the corporate communications and publicity team for Australia's largest content creator - Endemol Shine. At MediaWorks, Charlotte leads on all group communications - including content, brand and talent publicity - and corporate affairs.
Leon has extensive radio knowledge from 25 years in the business. As Group Content Director for radio at MediaWorks, Leon oversees all Radio music brands, content & people as well as relationships with other parts of the business. Prior to this Leon spent 20 years as Content Director for The Edge, taking it from a small station in Hamilton to become the biggest station in NZ.
Hal Crawford is MediaWorks’ Chief News Officer, having joined the organisation in July 2016. In his role he manages The AM Show, The Project, The Nation and Newshub, one of New Zealand’s largest news services. Prior to joining MediaWorks, Hal was Editor in Chief and Publisher of ninemsn in Australia where he led substantial audience and revenue growth over a nine year period, managing a network of 60+ sites used daily by millions of Australians. Hal began his career in newspapers and has worked in Australia and globally in print and broadcast media. He has lectured in journalism at Melbourne’s La Trobe University and founded a social media research company, Share Wars. Prior to moving to New Zealand, Hal also sat on the Australian Press Council.
Alex graduated with a BA/LLB from Auckland University in 1999, and commenced her legal career at Bell Gully in Auckland. Alex joined MediaWorks in December 2014 after spending eleven years in the United Kingdom (from 2003 to 2014), nine years of which was with the BSkyB legal team (Principal Legal Advisor, Sky Media). In MediaWorks, Alex leads the legal team and standards committee, and is responsible for Board-related matters and corporate governance.
Tom Cotter has 15 years' experience in developing and implementing technical strategy. As General Manager for Digital Media at TVNZ from 2007-2014 he led the digital growth strategy. He was Strategy Leader for Telecom's New Media and Emerging Services, Head of Product and Content Strategy for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (PlayStation), and Head of Games for Virgin Media UK.
